R&D Scientist/Engineer (Technology Fundamentals)

Oxford PV is actively seeking a skilled and enthusiastic scientist/engineer to contribute to our perovskite cell technology development initiatives within the R&D Technology Development department. This role is particularly well-suited for individuals with expertise in semiconductor material development, process development, or broader proficiency in the material science and characterization of thin-films for photovoltaic applications.

What will you be doing?
  • Understand and control perovskite material and thin film properties to drive improved performance of perovskite based solar cells
  • Apply a broad skillset of material science, semiconductor physics, thin-film process development, and advanced device and thin-film characterisation to improve fundamental understanding of perovskite based solar cells
  • Identify performance limitations and issues associated with relevant perovskite material properties and deliver appropriate, innovative solutions
  • Plan, execute and analyse experiments. Present reports to technical team and department manager
  • Show strategic thinking on complex projects and solve problems in a creative way
  • Ensure tasks are appropriately prioritised and executed according to agreed timelines
  • Comply with quality standards including scientific integrity, record keeping and health and safety
  • Support the work activities of team members and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Manage collaborations and external relationships where applicable.


What will you need to succeed in the role?
  • Postgraduate Degree in relevant discipline i.e. materials science/chemistry/physical sciences/engineering or relevant industry experience.
  • An understanding of semiconductor materials
  • Experience in characterisation of materials and thin films is essential
  • Experience in processing thin films within photovoltaic device is desirable
  • Experience in perovskite thin-film photovoltaics (or another thin-film photovoltaics technology) is desirable
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and proactively identify the tasks required to move projects forward
  • Competence in statistical data analysis software will be beneficial
  • Excellent communication, presentation and written skills
  • Proactive team player, capable of establishing strong working relationships within the Oxford PV team.
